Young stallion, Barely a Moment (Gilded Time ex Lady Danna by Danehill) has got his new career as a sire off to a grand start. His promising daughter Whipthebrewer scored a solid victory in Adelaide on Saturday in the CBUS Plate (1000m) at Morphettville Parks. Whipthebrewer lived up to her trainers, David Hayes, expectation when she cruised home two-and-a-half lengths clear of her rivals. “She’s got good ability and I have a bit of an opinion of her,” Hayes said. “I used this race as a virtual trial for her and she’ll run next in either the Merson Cooper or the Maribyrnong Plate.” The win was a timely boost for her full brother who is set to go under the hammer at the 2010 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale in March. They are both from the twice winning Lake Coniston mare Constant in Opal a half-sister to Flamboyant, the dam of two stakes performers including Blue Diamond Prelude winner and Group One placed youngster Hammerbeam. Barely a Moment was bred by WA horseman Dick Vincent, who sold him for $58,000 to Mark Pilkington at the 2003 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont. Barely a Moment’s progeny will also visit the Magic Millions sales rings with members of his latest crop heading to Perth in 2010 where seven yearlings have been catalogued for sale in January. The stallion will also be represented in his home state, South Australia, in March and among those will be the full brother to Whipthebrewer. “It’s great to see Barely a Moment get a winner on the board so early,” Magic Millions Adelaide and Victorian Manager Tim Brown said. “I’ve seen a number of quality individuals by him heading to our Adelaide Sale in March including Whipthebrewer’s full brother who is a cracking type.” The colt will be offered at that auction by Lindsay Park Stud, run by Sam Hayes’ who stands Barely a Moment at a fee of $14,300 this spring. - Michele Cullen
